Start / Bygdø Royal Manor
Bygdø Royal Manor merged with Norsk Folkemuseum in 2004. The farm is run by the museum, and the farmyard, cultivated fields and grazing lands are now part of the museum grounds. The manor house, however, is still under the use and care of the Royal Family.
Bygdø Royal Manor is a contemporary ecological farm. The farm has a sizable livestock and produces organic foods.
The surrounding grounds are now being restored to their previous state as a historic park for the public.
In the 1830s, King Carl Johan of Sweden-Norway initiated the idea of developing Bygdø peninsula into a park for the public. It was important for Oslo (then Christiania) to have a park where citizens could walk and enjoy themselves, like Stockholm and other European capitals had.
